The Advanced Sensors and Processing group within the Sensor Processing and Exploitation Directorate within BAE Systems Technology Solutions has an open requirement for a Principle Scientist to conceptualize, design, and develop state-of-the-art remote sensing systems for a variety of applications. We are seeking a motivated individual to join our team in a leadership role to generate and mature innovative ideas and new customers in the realm of remote sensing systems, including imaging systems, low SWaP processing systems, and integrated multi-INT sensors and processing systems. The Advanced Sensors and Processing group is currently engaged in numerous projects, including development and transition of airborne wide area persistent surveillance imaging systems, development of low SWaP multi-sensor imaging systems, development of ultra-low power computing systems, and algorithm deployment on low power hardware devices for video and signal processing. Candidates must have an extensive background in one or more of the following fields: remote sensing, sensor development, image and video processing, signal processing, embedded processing hardware design, or systems engineering. The ideal candidate would have exposure to most of these technical domains having worked complex multi-disciplinary remote sensing and processing problems. Additionally, a demonstrated ability to generate and execute new R&D programs in a business development capacity within the DoD science and technology community is desired. The ideal candidates will have extensive hands-on experience with system architecture and design, software architecture, design, and management, and use of systems analysis tools. The candidate must be able to supervise internal and external engineers and scientists to drive system development from concept to fabrication and deployment. Occasional travel will be required to various facilities to attend meetings or to oversee system testing. Duties and Responsibilities - Generate new business with novel and innovative ideas, including close customer interaction to shape new opportunities - Lead innovative system development projects (or segments of major projects) with responsibility for achievement of schedule, cost, and technical requirements - Create conceptual system designs, assess risks, conduct design trade studies, and develop cost effective products that meet program requirements - Perform analyses and computer simulations of complex systems to facilitate trade studies and system architecture specification - Oversee development and implementation of complex system software architectures - Act as technical capture lead for new-business proposal efforts - Direct and supervise the work of lower and mid-level engineers and designers with a wide breadth of domain expertise: algorithm developers, software developers, embedded processing systems experts, and physical sensor designers Minimum Education and Experience Bachelor's Degree and 15 years work experience or equivalent experience Required Skills and Education 10+ years with PhD (13+ years with MS, 15+ years with BS) in scientific or engineering discipline Experience with research and development of complex sensor/systems engineering design, construction, integration and test 3+ years as lead program manager, principal investigator, or chief engineer Experience interacting with, or working within, the DOD or intelligence research community (DARPA, IARPA, AFRL, ONR, ARL, ) Ability to obtain security clearance Demonstrated experience in the following areas: - Design, fabrication, and testing of remote sensing systems - Real-time embedded processing system and software architecture and implementation in remote systems Extensive background in one or more of the following fields: remote sensing, sensor development, image and video processing, signal processing, embedded processing hardware design, or systems engineering.
